Professor Richard M. Osgood, Jr.

Research Scientist

Dr. Jerry Dadap, Jr. (Surface/Optics Group)
EE-BBQ-0300
Jerry I. Dadap Jr. obtained his Ph.D. degree in Physics at the University of Texas at Austin in 1996, where he studied surface nonlinear optics and ultrafast spectroscopy. He then became a joint postdoctoral scientist at Columbia University in the physics and chemistry departments, where he carried out a wide range of projects, including nonlinear optics of molecules, the development of nonlinear optical scattering, and optoelectronics and THz studies. After his postdoctoral stint, he joined a start-up telecommunications company, where he worked on light-micromachine-based switching. When the telecom bubble burst, he left the industry and joined Columbia University, where he is now a Research Scientist. His current research activities cover broad areas of fundamental and applied nature; his studies range from the electronic structure of surfaces, interfaces, and two-dimensional-layered materials, to nonlinear optical materials and devices, guided wave optics, and silicon photonics. He is also, at present, a topical and Associate Editor of the optics journal, Optics Express. His other interests include nonlinear acoustics.

Zhisheng Li (Z-man) (Surface Group)
EE-BBQ-0344
Under stress? Stress is not easy to handle not only in people's lives but also in materials design. Zhisheng Li's research is focusing on addressing how to introduce controllable stress in materials and how stress will change their surface reactivity. Zhisheng Li graduated from University of Science and Technology of China with a B.S. in Materials Science & Engineering in 2008. Before joining Columbia, he worked on Gas-Surface scattering with molecular beams in UC Santa Barbara from 2008 to 2010.
